Brandenburgisches Staatsorchester Frankfurt, Ernst Theis - Franz von Suppè: Fantasia Symphonica & Spanish Dances (2026) [Hi-Res]

On March 18, 1860, Vienna experienced a real political event at the second concert of the young Orchester-Verein Euterpe. First of all, there were several pieces by Duke Ernst II of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, which were received with great applause for their creator, who was present. Equally successful was the subsequent Fantasia symphonica on themes by Ernst II, for which the Kapellmeister of the Theater an der Wien was responsible - none other than Franz von Suppé, who had succeeded in transforming several themes by his blue-blooded colleague into a sparkling, impressive symphony. Once again, Suppé's classical training had paid off. Although he became immortal through Die schöne Galathée and, above all, Boccaccio, he also achieved great things with several serious works (for example the Requiem, jpc 1734129). - The symphonic fantasy is coupled with twelve Spanish Dances, a lively collection of delicious miniatures, from which the famous Jota rears its head time and again.
