Zak Scerri - In Case I Don’t See You (2026)

Aussie-born and UK-based guitarist Zak Scerri trios up with Ross Anderson/b and Billy Pod/dr on a collection of nifty originals that has a feel somewhere between Grant Green’s swing and John Scofields muscle. His tone and use of space is at its tastiest on the soulful and simmering pieces like “ThePush Back” and the clever journey of the grooving “MM” which spotlights Anderson’s rich lines. Scerri displays some modern patterns and textures over Pod’s sticks on “Supreme” and gets into some clever jabs with him along with some subtle use of effects during “Another Door”. Scerri shows his tender side on the graceful “Almost Home” and gets into a rocking mood with some thick chords and tones on the foot stomping “Roach”. Strong strings.~ By George W. Harris
