The new instrumental album "nen" by Kiri Ra!—a collaborative project featuring Lau Nau (Laura Naukkarinen), Linda Fredriksson, and Matti Bye—is a gossamer and weightless suite of improvisations. Created leisurely over a ten-year period during casual friendly gatherings, the record stands out for its rare relaxation and sincerity. Despite being released on the jazz label We Jazz, the material steers clear of traditional jazz, offering instead stripped-back, slowed-down music performed on a rich array of instruments ranging from cello and modular synths to toys and balafons. Completely devoid of musical grandstanding, the work delivers a refined, meditative ambient experience that successfully avoids standard chill-out clichés.
