Relative Pitch Records has released "Penumbra," the debut album by Iranian clarinetist and improviser Ghazal Faghihi, as part of its ongoing solo series. Despite her rigorous classical training, Faghihi focuses on the electro-acoustic intersection of historical and modern clarinets with electronics. The album's concept centers on the metaphor of the penumbra as a transitional, ambiguous space. The recording utilizes multi-track layering, with Faghihi performing all parts solo, including various clarinets, shruti box, percussion, and electronics.
