This compilation has the historic appeal of including the unique recordings made by the Russ Garcias Wigville Band, one of the most creative and exciting jazz ensembles he put together during the 1950s. This extraordinary band included Charlie Mariano, Peter and Conte Candoli, and Jimmy Giuffre, among others.
"The Common Ground" is a landmark studio album by American jazz flutist Herbie Mann, recorded in 1960 and released on Atlantic Records (catalog number SD 1343). The full title of the project on the original vinyl cover is "The Herbie Mann Afro-Jazz Sextet + Four Trumpets."
This release was an important step in popularizing the Afro-jazz genre, fusing Cuban, African, and American jazz rhythms with commercially appealing, easy-to-listen melodies.
