Backrooms (2026) is a supernatural horror film directed by Kane Parsons, adapted from his own viral YouTube series and the internet creepypasta phenomenon of the same name. Set in 1990, the story follows a furniture store employee who discovers a portal in his showroom basement — a fluorescent yellow-lit threshold into an endless, eerie maze.
The original soundtrack was co-composed by Edo Van Breemen — a Canadian composer known for The Monkey and Keeper — and Kane Parsons himself, who in addition to directing marks his debut as a feature film co-composer. The score carries forward the lo-fi analogue aesthetic of the original YouTube series, now elevated to a full theatrical scale: synth-driven, atmospheric, and unsettling. The deliberate choice of ambient textures over conventional orchestration has been widely noted as a defining strength of the project. The album combines solo tracks by each composer with collaborative pieces, running over 92 minutes in total.
