Nelson Patton is an instrumental duo formed by Dave Nelson and Marlon Patton, specializing in experimental music that blends elements of ambient minimalism, jazz improvisation, and orchestral composition. The primary sound is created through trombone, drums, and electronics, establishing a unique balance between serene, meditative sonic textures and dynamic, cinematic moments.
Since their inception in 2013, the collective has established significant creative presence through collaboration with renowned composer Paola Prestini on the Ancient City project and maintaining a long-standing partnership with multidisciplinary artist Lonnie Holley. These collaborative results have gained critical recognition, particularly through their contributions to the album MITH, as well as through cinematographic projects and presentations at prestigious venues such as the Sundance Film Festival.
The collective continues to evolve, transitioning to a new chapter with the release of a new album in July 2026, featuring numerous guest artists and creators, demonstrating their expanding influence and versatility.

Built on a foundation of meditative, drone-based improvisations recorded in Upstate New York, Lost in a Nation represents a bold evolution for the duo. Each track invites a different collaborator into Nelson Patton's sonic world, transforming core improvised ideas into fully realized, maximalist arrangements layered with horns, synths, and intricate production.
