Metamorphosis – reimagining female aging through music, photography and flower symbolism. A concert and photo art w/ Maija Väisänen, piano; Juliette f2c; photography and video, in collaboration with FloweRescue. Music from Germaine Tailleferre, Amy Beach, Sergei Rahmaninov, Claude Debussy, Karen Tanaka, Peter Sculthorpe and Philip Glass.
The project was created out of passion towards making women more visible: the forgotten female composers as well as aging women, who somehow seem to become more invisible in our society’s eyes as they grow into more interesting and layered personalities. Maija wanted Juliette to do photos of the flowers in Tailleferre’s piece Fleurs de France, and as we discussed, we discovered an interesting connection to the poetic symbolism often found between flowers and female beauty and character. We wanted to explore different perspectives to female aging and women’s roles, appreciating the interesting metamorphoses that create our life paths. Collaborating with FloweRescue, we were able to look at the theme through the lens of sustainable beauty, and meet wonderful women of different ages, who were not only our models, but an inspiration to the whole project.
