Geo Pjäserna is a duo formed by writer and guitarist Rasmus Theisen and cellist-composer Asbjørn Elle, both raised on the Danish peninsula of Mols and long-standing creative collaborators. Their new album, "Geo Pjäserna feat. Jakob Buchanan," continues the "Pjäs" series — a planned cycle of releases exploring the relationship between landscape, cartography, and music. Each instalment features a rotating cast of guest musicians; this time, the guest is Jakob Buchanan, trumpeter and jazz composer, named Danish Jazz Composer of the Year 2024, whose brass voice adds warmth and improvised air to the duo's typically chamber, string-led palette.
The project's signature methodology persists: track titles are generated by a randomised system in which each composition is assigned a fictional statement, a geographic location, and a year — making the record a soundtrack to an imaginary journey, a series of musical episodes scattered across the map, shaped by what the artists call the "geography of chance." The new tracklist — "Den Sjældne Mose," "Suzuki Splash (2008–2012)," two-part "Grævlingekoret," "Atlasset," "Biennial," "Søstre & Krager" — maintains this poetic, cartographic logic. All instrumentation is acoustic and vocal-free, drifting across Mols folk music, new age, bluegrass, highland song, and neo-classical forms.
