Best Kenneth More Movie Themes (Remastered 2026) is part of Disques Cinémusique's extensive series of actor-themed digital compilations, in which the Canadian label — a specialist in the restoration and reissue of archival film music — documents the careers of classic Hollywood and British cinema stars through their original soundtrack recordings.
Kenneth Gilbert More (1914–1982) was one of the defining male stars of post-war British cinema. In the 1950s he embodied the quintessential English screen hero — self-deprecating, stoic and warmly trusted by audiences — in a run of films that spanned light comedy and weighty historical drama alike. This compilation spans the years 1948 to 1962, the peak of More's film career, and draws together scores by some of the most distinguished composers working in British cinema at the time.
The programme opens with the Scott of the Antarctic suite (1948), for which Ralph Vaughan Williams composed a score later reworked into his Sinfonia Antartica, his Seventh Symphony. Successive entries chart More's rise through espionage thriller (The Clouded Yellow, 1950, score by Benjamin Frankel), Ealing-style comedy (Genevieve, 1953, with Larry Adler's celebrated harmonica themes), and the triumphant biographical drama Reach for the Sky (1956), the most popular British film of its year. The centrepiece war films A Night to Remember (1958) and Sink the Bismarck! (1960), both scored by Clifton Parker, represent the pinnacle of More's screen heroism. The compilation closes with material from The Greengage Summer (1961, Richard Addinsell) and Some People (1962, featuring Valerie Mountain & The Eagles), signalling the transition from his 1950s dominance to the more complex decade that followed. All recordings were remastered in 2026.
