The album "Van De Velde: Die Vollkommene Ehe & Das Leben Zu Zweit" is an official soundtrack album released by the German Peter Thomas Sound Orchester, conducted by iconic composer Peter Thomas.
This compilation features original music from two classic German educational films from the late 1960s.
The late 1960s saw a boom in so-called "sex education cinema" (Aufklärungsfilm) in West Germany. Director Franz Josef Gottlieb adapted the famous works of Dutch gynecologist Theodor Hendrik van de Velde:
"Die vollkommene Ehe" (The Ideal Marriage, 1968) and "Das Leben zu zweit – Sexualität in der Ehe" (Life Together – Sexuality in Marriage, 1969).
Producer Horst Wendlandt invited his friend, the renowned avant-garde composer Peter Thomas, to write the music for these films. Thomas created a light, stylish, and incredibly atmospheric soundtrack, combining elements of jazz, swing, early lounge, bossa nova, and the cosmic beat characteristic of his iconic work on the series "Space Patrol Orion."
