The fourth album by American artist Zzzahara, Distant Lands, marks a radical departure from their traditional romantic themes toward a deeply autobiographical analysis. The impetus for the record came from vivid dreams triggered by an immersion into the work of director David Lynch, in which the musician communed with their late brother. The album explores themes of childhood trauma, family dynamics, and past opioid addiction, reimagining a state of detachment from the real world.

Zzzahara’s previous melancholy and self-destructive habits have given way to a stoic, mature outlook on life, shaped by the cinema of Wong Kar Wai and existential literature. Rejecting a victim mentality, Zzzahara documents their biographical facts with utmost emotional honesty.
