At 250 Miles Per Hour is a cult instrumental album by Dutch composer, arranger and conductor Jerry van Rooyen. The album was released in 1996 on the German label Crippled Dick Hot Wax! and is one of the most striking releases in the retro-lounge and space age pop style of the second half of the 90s.
In fact, this album is not a studio work specially recorded in 1996. It is a carefully arranged collection of archival recordings from the late 1960s and early 1970s (mostly 1969–1971).
At that time, Jerry van Rooyen was actively working in Germany, where he wrote soundtracks for films (in particular, German crime thrillers based on the works of Edgar Wallace), television programs, and also created the so-called “library music” for German radio and television (the WDR Big Band and SFB Big Band projects). The German label Crippled Dick Hot Wax!, which in the 90s specialized in digging up forgotten treasures of European cinema and light music, collected these disparate recordings under one conceptual cover, giving them a second life.
