Emerging at the turn of the 1970s from the Far-Fen project, the Peruvian band Black Sugar became pioneers of Latin funk, successfully fusing African-American funk with traditional Latin rhythms against the backdrop of a restrictive military dictatorship. Despite state-imposed cultural limitations and the white sugar shortage that inspired their name, the musicians recorded two landmark albums for the Sono Radio label under the direction of Jaime Delgado Aparicio. Their 1971 self-titled debut featuring English credits entered the top ten on the Miami charts with the hit "Too Late," while their 1974 sophomore album stood out for its innovative quadraphonic sound. The Spanish label Discos Monterey has delivered a high-quality reissue of this historic international fusion legacy.Title: Black Sugar II
