In her new program and studio album *Song Of A Girl*, Anna Margolina sets to music the poems of the poet Anna Margolin (1887–1952), with whom she shares not only her name but also her country of origin. Jazz blends with elements of folk, soul, and electronica—performed by a skilled international collective.
Rosa Lebensboim, who came from a traditional Jewish family, emigrated from what is now Belarus to 1920s New York, where she wrote under a pseudonym. Literary critics were convinced that such powerful texts must have been written by a man. Here, the band reflects on Margolin’s literary exploration of tradition, gender, history, and religion, as well as the universal human longing for love and belonging.
As with her debut album *One Endless Night* (2023, XJAZZ! Music), the singer focuses on the search for identity and the fusion of cultures. This project marks the debut of her original compositions: she co-writes the songs with bassist Paul Kleber—a musician renowned beyond national borders—while Arseny Rykov plays piano and Martin Krümmling plays drums.
