There is not a Jimi Hendrix fan - nor even a casual observer - alive who isn’t aware that, during the great man’s tragically short life, he only released three studio albums, and one live set. But likewise, it’s no secret that he recorded a vast selection of music during the same period. Much of this material has been released posthumously, beginning with the rather brilliant Cry Of Love LP, released in 1971 and containing tracks Hendrix was working on at the time of his death, intended as his fourth studio album. This trend has continued throughout the years since, with new live and studio sets appearing every few years, generally snapped up by the aficionados who, understandably, can’t get enough Jimi. One collection, scheduled for release in 1992 but shelved soon thereafter, was not blessed with an intended name, nor even a working title. But it was to contain a superb selection of studio - and even some home - recordings. Despite its initial, and previously ongoing, failure to appear, this new CD, simply titled The Ultra Rare Tracks, contains the long - awaited cuts which fans were hoping for more than 30 years back.
