In the early 1980s, Suzi Quatro ended her relationship with RAK Records with the release of a successful Greatest Hits compilation, which reached number four in the UK charts. She then moved to a new label, Dreamland, and went to Los Angeles to record the album ROCK HARD under Mike Chapman. The album continued its commercial pop-rock direction, featuring original tracks by Quatro and Taki, as well as songs by Chinn and Chapman. The single "Rock Hard" was featured on the soundtrack of the film Times Square and brought Suzi international success. The album itself went gold in Australia and charted moderately in other countries.
In 1981–1982, after the closure of Dreamland, Suzi began working closer to home, recording with producer Chris Andrews. The result was the album MAIN ATTRACTION (1982), a blend of pop rock and synth sounds. Despite an active promotional campaign, neither the singles nor the album achieved significant success.
In 1983, Suzi recorded new material for the project SUZI Q and toured the UK and Australia, but the album was never released. The only single, "I Go Wild" (1984), failed to receive radio airplay, putting the project on hold. During these years, Suzi became a mother of two but continued to perform.
In the mid-1980s, her career shifted toward theater and television. She played Annie Oakley in the musical Annie Get Your Gun (1986), released a single about the same, and also recorded the synth-pop duet "Wild Thing" with Reg Presley. Music releases were rare, and the album SUZI Q was only published in 1998 under the title Unreleased Emotion.
