Anbessa - Anbessa Plays Manu Dibango (2026) [Hi-Res]

The French ensemble Anbessa, formed by members of the Ethio-jazz group Akalé Wubé and the jazz trio Akagera, has released the album "Anbessa Plays Manu Dibango" on Prado Records. The project originated from a creative partnership with the Cameroonian virtuoso Manu Dibango, which began in 2013. Although the initial recording plans were cut short by the artist's passing in 2020, the group transformed their tribute into a comprehensive live and studio program. Eschewing overplayed hits, Anbessa reinterprets rare gems from Dibango’s catalog, highlighting the intricate connections between jazz, funk, and traditional African music—a signature fusion that Dibango cultivated throughout his career alongside legends such as Herbie Hancock and Bill Laswell.
