"Beyond Morgia: The Labyrinths of Klimster" is a unique archival instrumental album by Australian virtuoso guitarist, composer, and producer Lobby Loyde, released in 2007 on Aztec Music.
This release is a grand sci-fi prog-rock odyssey, originally recorded by Loyde in 1976 but shelved for over 30 years. The album was released shortly before the musician's death in 2007.
"Beyond Morgia" is an entirely instrumental concept album, conceived by Lobby Loyde as the soundtrack to an imaginary (or planned) science fiction film or novel. The storyline, reflected in the track titles, tells of a journey through uncharted worlds, the dangerous labyrinths of the planet Klimster, and other dimensions.
In 1976, Loyd locked himself in the studio, armed with cutting-edge analog synthesizers (including the Minimoog and EMS) and guitar processors to recreate the atmosphere of deep space. However, in the mid-1970s, Australian labels were looking for Loyd's more traditional pub rock and hard rock, so the complex electronic-progressive recording was deemed commercially unsustainable and shelved.
The 2007 release by Aztec Music was meticulously restored from the original master tapes under Loyd's own curation, featuring a luxurious booklet chronicling the production process, and became a monument to his incredible, often underappreciated visionary talent, which extended far beyond classic rock 'n' roll.
