Soul Jazz Unit is an Italian trio that emerged in 2012 around guitarist and producer Pierluigi Masciarelli, whose roots lie in 1990s acid jazz (the band Babyra Soul). Its lineup — organ (Emiliano Pari, who also sings), drums (Marcello Surace), and guitar — is the classic one for the genre and evokes the "organ trio" format that became the signature of 1960s soul jazz. This is precisely the aesthetic in which the group operates: the strand of jazz that absorbed the rhythms, harmonies, and riffs of rhythm & blues, gospel, and funk, with sonic touchstones such as Cannonball Adderley, Horace Silver, Grant Green, Wes Montgomery, Jimmy Smith, Lonnie Smith, Jack McDuff, George Benson, and Sonny Stitt.Title: Comidaboa

Having started out playing standards, in 2013 the band released its debut album "Old School Recipes" — six originals plus four radically rethought covers: "Red Baron" by Billy Cobham, "Your Is the Light" from Santana's repertoire, Stevie Wonder's "Love Having You Around," and "Summertime." Guest soloists flutist Eric Daniel and saxophonist Franco Marinacci appear on the record. The group's aesthetic rests on the three pillars of late-1960s and early-1970s Black American music — groove, melody, and feel; the arrangements are deliberately spare yet never trite, and the soul jazz tradition is reinterpreted through a contemporary language.
The key point the text stresses is that the trio's true strength lies in live performance rather than in the studio. Surace holds down the rhythmic foundation, leaving organ and guitar room to interact freely; Pari combines funky assertiveness with a refined melodic sensibility; and Masciarelli stands out as a vivid improviser with a recognizable tone and phrasing.
