Manos Milonakis - Antigone (2026) [Hi-Res]

The Antigone soundtrack was created for a South Korean staging of Sophocles' classical tragedy at the 42nd Yongin International Drama Festival in 2024. Director Yiannis Paraskevopoulos sought to develop music that integrates organically into the theatrical dramaturgy rather than functioning as an external addition.
The composition is centered on wind instruments, deliberately referencing the historical significance of ancient Greek woodwinds in early drama. The music operates as an active participant in the action, intimately connected with the physical presence of actors, their breathing, and the intonation of spoken language.
The sonic world is constructed from saxophone, synthesizers, piano, and unique handcrafted electroacoustic instruments. Through processes of recording, sound transformation, and recomposition, breath, frictional sounds, and resonant tones become essential musical elements. The entire work is infused with a philosophy of minimalism and emotional vulnerability, creating a contemporary classical-electroacoustic soundscape that deeply corresponds with the tragic meaning of the ancient play.
