"Pools of Sorrow ~ Waves of Joy" is the debut solo album by renowned Dutch multi-instrumentalist and composer Arjen Anthony Lucassen (creator of Ayreon, Star One, and Guilt Machine).
Originally released in 1993 under the laconic pseudonym Anthony, the album remained a rarity for a long time and was out of print. However, in September 2025 (as part of Ayreon's 30th anniversary celebration), the long-awaited deluxe release of the album took place under his full name, Arjen Anthony Lucassen.

Unlike Ayreon's subsequent large-scale metal operas, this album is much more down-to-earth, song-driven, and eclectic. Echoes of The Beatles, Pink Floyd, folk rock, and the soft hard rock of the '80s can be heard here.
