The artist is Chilean drummer and composer Ignacio Díaz (Ignacio Díaz Videla), who holds a Master of Music in Global Jazz from the Berklee Global Jazz Institute. His 2023 master's thesis, "One Rhythm/One Universe: a new approach to Chilean Cueca," examines new ways to approach cueca, explores improvisational skills, and integrates Global Jazz methodology into Chilean folkloric music, drawing on a critical research book from his home country as the basis for a set of compositions, each tied to a concept from that book — moving through history, philosophy, poetry, and finally traditional music. He describes the result as a new creative process that turns cueca into a multidimensional experience — a concept he calls "Global Cueca."
