Iwuda is a solo musical project created by First Nations bassist Davin Ojala that blends jazz and groove traditions. Named after the Anaiwan word for echidna, the project focuses on bass-forward compositions to explore themes of cultural connection. The debut album, Music for Iwuda, captures Ojala’s journey in searching for a unique musical representation of himself. The recording process divided the album into two distinct parts consisting of live duo compositions and layered solo sessions. Each piece reflects a sparse musical starting point that develops organically over time, mirroring the incomplete and evolving nature of cultural discovery.
