The Sound - Thunder Up (1987)

"Thunder Up" (1987) is the fourth and final studio album by the British post-punk band The Sound, released shortly before their breakup. It is one of the most mature, darkest, and most profound records in the history of 1980s new wave.

In contrast to the more polished sound of "All Fall Down," "Thunder Up" returns the band to a dense, guitar-driven, and raw drive, combined with spacious synthesizers. The record is imbued with anxiety, emotional tension, and monumental post-punk drive.

The album reflects a difficult period in the life of frontman and songwriter Adrian Borland, who was battling severe depression. The lyrics are filled with themes of emotional breakdown, the search for hope amid chaos, existential angst, and the struggle with one's own demons.
