An accidental finding of a rare 1978 vinyl record, Ballet De La Guadeloupe, released on the Fiesta label, unveils an authentic and unpolished sound of Caribbean folk. The album by singer La Brisquante is a raw, energetic recording of traditional Guadeloupean music, far removed from polished commercial world music.

The soundscape combines the expressive, piercing vocals of La Brisquante, traditional medleys (pot-pourri), festive brass sections characteristic of Guadeloupean carnival, and ominous ritual chants. The core of the album lies in hypnotic and heavy percussion solos played on gros-ka drums (the traditional gros-ka style). Despite a relentless emotional intensity throughout the tracks and an odd misprint on the vinyl label (mistakenly crediting Manu Dibango instead of the vocalist), the record conveys a rare sense of alive, community-driven narrative, rendered all the more enigmatic by the total obscurity surrounding La Brisquante.
