Katherine Jenkins - Rejoice (2007)

Welsh singer Katherine Jenkins released her fifth studio album, Rejoice, through the Universal Classics and Jazz label. The record is structured around a blend of classical arias, Broadway musical numbers, covers of popular pop tracks, and original compositions written by songwriters Gary Barlow, Steve Mac, and Wayne Hector. In terms of visual presentation, the singer transitioned from the reserved classical image featured on her debut release Premiere toward a more glamorous style.

Despite achieving a career-best debut at number three on the national charts, the album drew mixed reactions from her core classical crossover audience. The effort to adapt pop material, such as Seal's Kiss from a Rose and the aria Somewhere from West Side Story, faced criticism regarding the fit between the material and her mezzo-soprano technique, as well as a loss of the originals' emotional context, even though the singer stopped short of embracing a full-on dance pop sound.
