Carmen grew up in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, and Lucerne, Switzerland. She attended the conservatory in Lucerne but later studied accounting. In 1975, she decided to pursue a career in music. She formed the duo Carmen & Thompson with bassist Mike Thompson, playing primarily country music. Their single "Time Moves On" reached number 31 on the Italian charts in 1980, and in 1981, they performed the song "Follow Me" at the Sanremo Festival. Solo Career: After seven years of stage experience, Phil Carmen founded Picar Studios in Stein am Rhein, Switzerland, in 1982. He recorded two solo albums that garnered little attention until 1985, when he achieved success with the LP *Walkin' the Dog*, which reached number 3 on the Swiss charts. His biggest hit was the single "On My Way in LA," which climbed to number 18 in Germany and number 9 in Switzerland in the summer of 1985. "On My Way in LA" was also featured in the 1988 television series *Wild West*. His 1986 album *Wise Monkeys* topped the Swiss charts, while the single "Moonshine Still" reached number 10. His final successful solo album was *City Walls* (1987), which peaked at number 10 in Switzerland. The accompanying promotional tour led to the album *Live in Montreux*, featuring the same band lineup: Brian Auger (organ), Pick Withers and Larry E. Van (drums), Dick Morrissey (saxophone), Steve Dawson (trumpet), Steve Evens (bass), and Sabine van Baaren (vocals). In 1986, he founded the country band Clover Leaf. Dick Morrissey and Richard Tee also collaborated on his 1993 album, *Skyline*. In 1996, he released his final album, consisting of covers of songs by his favorite musician, Bob Dylan.
