Merit Hemmingson - Pekkos Per å Jag (2026) [Hi-Res]

Swedish organist and artist Merit Hemmingson presents a conceptual reimagining of Swedish traditional folk music, engaging with the heritage of the legendary 19th-century fiddler Pekkos Per from the village of Bingsjö. The sonic architecture of the album builds upon a bold synthesis of Scandinavian Folk with elements of American Baptist Gospel, sacred church traditions, and minimalist percussion.

Traditional fiddle tunes and polskas are transformed through the signature tone of the Hammond Organ, replacing conventional folk arrangements with a heavy, deliberate, down-tempo groove. The recording features long-time drummer Ola Winkler, whose tight rhythmic interplay with the organist mirrors the nuances of a traditional two-fiddle duet, alongside percussionist Juan Romero on pan-drum. The project reimagines traditional dance forms into spiritual chorales and spellbinding musical rituals.
