Gabriel Cabezas - Alyssa Weinberg: Pieces of Light (2026) [Hi-Res]

American composer Alyssa Weinberg wrote Pieces of Light, a cycle of miniatures for cello performed by Gabriel Cabezas. Its starting point is the work of American artist James Turrell, who treats light as a medium in its own right: he does not illuminate objects but makes light itself the thing perceived. The music carries this approach into the realm of sound. Light and sound are both intangible and lack solid form, yet both act powerfully on the senses and can alter perception of reality, even to the point of hallucinatory experiences. Each miniature explores one of these acoustic phenomena, parallel to optical ones, and invites the listener to consider how fragile the boundary is between the real and the perceived.
