Dirk Brossé - Philip Glass - Music for Film (2026) [Hi-Res]

The box set "Philip Glass – Music for Film" is a new anthology of film music by the American minimalist composer Philip Glass, performed by the Brussels Philharmonic under Dirk Brossé and released by the label Silva Screen. It is the latest instalment in a series that the Film Fest Gent festival has been producing for many years, presenting film composers through extensive studio recordings of their work.

All pieces have been newly recorded, and some of the material is published for the first time. The programme includes Glass's best-known scores — "Kundun," "The Hours," and "Koyaanisqatsi" — as well as music from other notable films. The release's main value lies in world premieres from the composer's archive: pieces from "Secret Window" and "Taking Lives," the complete score for the war drama "Hamburger Hill," and a suite from "No Reservations." In addition, pieces that previously existed only as demos have been newly arranged for orchestra, and "Helen's Theme" from "Candyman" appears in a new version. The box set thus combines familiar works with historically significant new orchestral arrangements.
