In 1994, NBC aired a 47-minute special produced for the opening of the Treasure Island resort in Las Vegas: a boy with a vivid imagination vacations there with his parents and fantasizes that he meets the pirate Long John Silver. The film was later sold on VHS at the hotel itself. It reflects an era when Las Vegas was catering heavily to families: the cast often overacts, and resort owner Steve Wynn appears on screen several times, conveniently earning membership in the Screen Actors Guild. The hotel as it existed in 1994 is no longer around today.Title: Treasure Island: The Adventure Begins (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

The film’s music was composed by Christopher L. Stone (born January 26, 1952, in Santa Monica), an American composer, musician, and occasional actor — a child prodigy raised in a family deeply involved in the Los Angeles film industry. By age 12 he had scored three motion pictures, and in 1965 he became the youngest member of ASCAP. He went on to study composition in Paris with Nadia Boulanger, mentor to many leading 20th-century composers. He later wrote the world’s first orchestral score for a video game, Dragon’s Lair, preserved in the Smithsonian Institution, and also worked on Dragon’s Lair 3D. His work has earned nominations and wins at the Emmy, Clio, and Cable ACE awards, and he founded Audio Impressions.
From the mid-1970s, Stone specialized in synthesizer programming and electronic sound design for film. He worked as a synth programmer for Jerry Goldsmith, helping integrate emerging technology into traditional orchestral film scoring. His studio contributed sound design to Logan’s Run (1976), Pete’s Dragon (1977), Battlestar Galactica (1978), Big Wednesday (1978), and An American Tail (1986); he created the Cylon voices in Galactica. By designing the original library for the E-mu Emulator sampler, he helped pioneer realistic sampled orchestral instrumentation. In 1986 he served as additional electronic orchestrator on From Beyond.
A special place in his career belongs to the Phantasm horror franchise. In the original 1979 film he created the voices of the Lurkers — the evil dwarf creatures — by running his own voice through a vocoder, and he kept voicing them in the sequels. He also scored Phantasm II (1988), Phantasm III: Lord of the Dead (1994), Phantasm IV: Oblivion (1998), and Phantasm: Ravager (2016), sustaining the series’ surreal horror atmosphere across four decades.
