Guitarist Yoshie Fruchter leads a quartet of violin, bass, and drums on this energetic and eclectic outing. Released on John Zorn’s Tzadik label as part of his Radical Jewish Culture series, PITOM draws on klezmer as a primary source, but also folds in rock, jazz, and avant-garde textures. The soulfulness of traditional Jewish music fuses with the improvisatory energy of jazz and in-your-face sonic textures for a brew that should intoxicate fans of the Klezmatics and John Zorn’s Masada recordings.
