With Magnésie, the pianist Christophe Waldner, the double-bass player Cyril Billot and drummer Kevin Borqué have recorded a great début, with the support of Mad Chaman, the label that André Manoukian is launching along with the trio's first album. Recorded at the Maison des Artistes in Chamonix in November 2016, Magnésie is a virtuoso, lyrical work which recalls the world of E.S.T. or of the Shaï Maestro trio. Even if this young Foehn Trio have not yet achieved the maturity of their illustrious predecessors, they are already developing into a pretty stunning act. Waldner cites mountain peaks as a major source of inspiration for his compositions. Hardly surprising, then, that most of his themes evoke a sense of vastness. A real revelation
