Mother Gong was an offshot band of Gong, first imagined by Gilli Smyth in 1978 to promote her album Mother. In the end of 1978, Gilli Smyth met Harry Williamson, and Mother Gong would then be the umbrella name for their musical projects together, with revolving musicians (or sometimes in duo with backing tapes). Mother Gong existed until 2006, although not continuously.
