Pirpaolo Bisogno - Love Secret (2019)

A disc in which African jazz meets Mediterranean music and in which the typical melodic sense of Italian jazz embraces swing and bebop. This is the essence of Love Secret, a record bearing the signature of the percussionist vibraphonist, Pierpaolo Bisogno, published on 10 September 2019 by the Emme Record Label. A work cured in the smallest detail played by an exceptional formation completed by Pietro Lussu on the piano, Francesco Galatro on the double bass and Marcello Di Leonardo on the drums. In addition to the quartet there are some important guests, such as Rocco Ziffarelli on guitar and Alfonso Deidda on the flute, which represent a real added value to the band. Love Secret is a complete and expressive work where the author expresses all his love for black music without neglecting his roots. An aspect that is partly expressed in the very image of the cover, where you can see a glimpse of the New York seen from the sea. To this we add that the disc also stems from the intention of bringing together different musical experiences that the band leader had in the jazz field, without neglecting the melodic aspect that characterizes his personality. A tribute to all African American music, through a real musical journey where the point of arrival is the "Mamma Africa" ​​and a mix of languages ​​that communicate perfectly with each other.

Among the most representative pieces of the disc we undoubtedly find Love Secret, the title track that best embodies the essence of the disc and that represents the inner world of Pierpaolo Bisogno made of passion and impetus: a real liberating evocation that comes out from the inspiration compositional of the band leader. Night Race is instead an oneiric melody, an almost recurring dream that reminds Pierpaolo Bisogno of the time when he was a boy and ran with the car to arrive at the concerts on time. A decidedly black song where the black and jazz soul of the author is fully perceived. Angel is a dedication to his wife, a song whose inspiration came from not very happy moments and which in some ways contains the more hidden side of Love Secret: a Mediterranean bolero that also evokes the flavors of South America which are also present in this project. Finally we also mention Mood Afrika, a composition that concludes the work, written several years ago and which has been revisited several times over time. A tribute to the world of Afro-Cuban percussion and to all of Africa that exudes energy and overwhelming rhythms intertwined with each other.
