The little-known prog rock band “Harsh Reality” originated in Stevenage (Hertfordshire) from the remnants of the “Freightliner Blues Band” (formerly “The Revolution”) in the early sixties. Their only album “Heaven & Hell” was released on Philips in 1969. Excellent hard rock with progressive elements, a powerful organ by Stephen Miller and guitar passages of three quintet members at once. In some places it looks a lot like “Procol Harum”, but its structure is more diverse and heavier. The music of the album is perceived quite well, given that we have an underground band. After the breakup of the band, Roger Swallow shone with his talent at Edwards Magic Theater, Matthews Southern Comfort, Plainsong, Albion Country Band. Alan Greed worked with Ray Russell on Rock Workshop and as a session vocalist. Mark Griffiths has worked with Matthews Southern Comfort, Jonathan Kelly, Al Stewart, David Essex, The Everly Brothers, and Cliff Richard & The Shadows. The remaining members of the group also settled in session workers.
