After the album Tiempo Lento, I focused on new musical compositions by using the same Latin Jazz expressive skills, a style that motivates me to compose songs that may lead to an immediate listening and yet leave room for the art of improvisation through the mood of Latin music.
The implementation of this CD is close to a pop project as the audio recordings were made with the use of click, overdubs, and sequences - often keyboard tracks – that I had prerecorded.
I meant to compose melodies with no extreme experimental search of the new; tunes that allow me and my ‘fellow travelers’ to express our musicality through the improvisation of the soloists on the most refined harmonies of jazz and also through the grooves created by rhythmic instruments.
There are two old songs "Archibugi" and "Goodbye Africa" that I recorded on my computer with software of the time. In this rendition, the melodies have kept their original peculiarity but have taken a different sound thanks to the recordings made in studio with computer tracks, this time played live.
"That’s for You" - a composition inspired by spirituals with typically pop sounds - is dedicated to Serena, the source of inspiration for the entire CD. "Tu Viaje" is also for her. The cha cha "Hola, Cómo Estás?" is instead a homage to Carlos Santana.
"El Niño d’Angelo" represents the pure fun of free playing and the meeting of the most recent Neapolitan music with the Latin feel. Giorgio Di Tullio introduces the song simulating the voice of a fishmonger at the market. Sometimes our band likes to joke a bit…
I thank the people who contributed to the implementation of this project: Antonella Trevisan for the graphics, Marti Jane Robertson for the mix and mastering, Roberto Tiranti for the executive production with TRJ Record and my sister Norma for the enthusiastic appreciation of the tunes while still under way.
