Mathias Algotsson (b. 1971) is an eminently talented Swedish pianist. I have been mighty impressed by his work with the Sliding Hammers (A Beautiful Friendship) and his previous albums In Copenhagen with legendary drummer Ed Thigpen and New Traditions
His latest CD is a fascinating project that features four young Swedish jazz talents along with his regular trio with Kristian Lind (bass) and Calle Rasmusson (drums & percussion). Emily McEwan is a singer who became famous for her international hit, "Are You Ready." Christina Gustafsson is a jazz singer who followed the footsteps of her sister, Rigmor Gustafsson. Alto saxophonist Klaus Lindquist is the recipient of the 2005 Golden Sax Award. Trumpeter Nils Janson is a multi-talented composer and active in pops, rock and Latin music genres.
The program -- a mixture of standards and originals -- lets us appreciate the vibrancy and the deep talent pool of the Swedish jazz scece. Recommended!
