Waclaw Zimpel - Ebbing in the tide (2020)

The new album from Polish clarinettist, composer and producer Waclaw Zimpel is a multi-layered ambient exploration further demonstrating his extraordinary mastery of the alto clarinet.

Zimpel creates musical spaces that seem to suspend time: one doesn't so much listen to these pieces as fall into them.

The entirely improvised “Ebbing in the tide” was recorded in one take at Prah Studios in Margate (UK), where Zimpel was artist-in-residence in February 2020. The piece uses advanced processing techniques - developed specially for him by James Holden - to transform a single clarinet line into an other-worldly choir of woodwinds.
