Jason Morton and The Chesapeake Sons demonstrates its blue-collar roots with their self-titled, 10-track collection on indie Copperline Music Group. Jason Morton and The Chesapeake Sons owes its sonic heritage to The Black Crowes, the Allman Brothers Band, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and the Marshall Tucker Band blending fierce musicianship, convicted vocals, and smart lyrics. Managed by Rusty Harmon, who guided Hootie + The Blowfish during its heyday, the Sons enlisted award-winning Will Edwards – the godson of late super-producer Tom Dowd – to produce the album, using the same piano that was pivotal in Derek & The Dominos’ signpost “Layla.” For their part, the Sons aren’t looking back – or ahead. “I guarantee Lynyrd Skynyrd or the Allman Brothers, they didn’t think about making music that would be so timeless that people would be listening to it 50 years later,” said frontman and founder Morton. “In the moment, it’s about creating good songs and playing rock and roll.”
