David Willetts - Joies (2020)

Joies is an album inspired by the art and creative life of Henri Matisse. Each song is based on a painting by Matisse , with lyrics by Kevin Wilson and music by David Willetts. Drawing on the music of Algeria and Morocco as well as jazz, samba and the composers Ravel and Debussy, the album celebrates Matisse's own love of the light, visual and spiritual culture of North Africa as well as Paris. With flowing arabesque, strong rhythms and moments of deep contemplation, 'joies' gets to the heart of Matisse's passions and takes the listener into a world of colour and light.
