The organ cycle L'Orgue Mystique by Charles Tournemire (1870-1939) - pupil of César Franck and Charles Marie Widor and teacher Olivier Messiaen - is one of the most comprehensive collections in which Gregorian chant is the subject of compositional work. In this great cycle comes from Gregorian chant not only in individual associations, such as in the more widely known or Boëllmanns orgelsymphonischen gothiques Widor, but is solely and exclusively liturgical thus the basis for an entire work group.
Within 6 years (1927-1932 ) created Tournemire these 51 trade fairs for the entire church year (for the liturgical performance as part of the Sunday and festival day celebration of Mass in the Roman Catholic Rite), which can be divided into three cycles, Christmas, Easter and Pentecost.
aim of this complete recording of it is not on a typical Cavaillé-Coll instrument in France to use (Tournemire himself was titular organist of the Cavaillé-Coll organ in Ste Clotilde in Paris), but on different - at first glance seem "inappropriate" - instruments of the Tournemire desired sound ideal to come as close as possible to each and thus also of the large bandwidth of the sound-lichen L'Orgue Mystique cycle needs to be. Although several organs within the series are used, we have ensured that the cycle nevertheless remains as closed and homogeneous.
