Leader and composer Jim Blomfield confirms himself as a major force on the UK jazz scene with the long-awaited debut release from this remarkable trio. Over the last two years the trio have been developing their own sound through the rehearsing and gigging of Blomfield s varied and often intricate compositions, the result being an attention to detail, musical dynamics and an organic level of trio interplay. It is these qualities that have come to fruition on this recording as well as having been so appealing to audiences during the trio s live performances. Like many of the newer generation of jazz players today, the album reflects the engagement with jazz synthesized through the sounds and influences of the time eclectic colours of Rock, Drum and Bass, Latin jazz and Blomfield s training in classical piano blend with the more traditional flavours of contemporary jazz. Overall, Wave Forms and Sea Changes will engage the listener in a fascinating musical journey with it s lyrical and evocative melodies, driving rhythms, rich harmonies, adventurous solo and group improvisations and tight, complex ensemble writing.
