Patrick Cohen, Erich Höbarth, Christophe Coin - Haydn: Piano Trios, Volume 4 (1994)

This disc is part of a wonderful series of Haydn Trios played on period instruments. The music provides constant evidence that Haydn is the most under- appreciated of all composers, with so many masterpieces so little known. Every one of these trios is delightful, filled with ingenuity and originality that make each a unique experience. The performers handle their instruments extremely well, and play with better balance than most modern instrument groups, especially in making the cello lines audible. Unfortunately, this particular disc is hampered by very short playing time. More music from the series should have been included. -- Leslie Gerber
