Mean Mary & the Contrarys - Hell & Heroes Vol. I (2022)

Barely four weeks after releasing her seventh solo album (“Portrait Of A Woman (Part 1)”, the prolific and virtuoso Mary James (aka Mean Mary) is already back with us, this time with the first part of a series of four E.P.s that she intends to develop with her electrified trio, the aptly named The Contrarys.Despite a touch of wah-wah here (“Penelope Rose”), as well as a diddley beat and a surf-like reverb -guitar from there (“Fugitive”), these four titles (actually much more electric than what she had accustomed us to until then) nevertheless remain firmly anchored in her Celtic roots (these Seven League Shoes” and “ A Sparrow Alone”, driven by a banjo still strongly reminiscent of her bluegrass roots). de go a full album with this formation? Probably just to keep us on our to es, ain’t it so?… Mission accomplished, Milady: quickly, quickly, the rest, name of God!
