Catapult was a Dutch music group, which gained its fame mainly through a number of singles in the 70s.
The band was formed during a holiday in Lloret de Mar in 1973, when a number of musicians from Leiden and Katwijk decided to start a new band together. They already played in varying compositions in Axis Purple (Leiden) and Oriental Garden (Katwijk). The basis was formed by Aart Mol, Cees Bergman, Erwin van Prehn and Geertjan Hessing. Michael Eschauzier supplemented the group with keyboard instruments. The gentlemen wanted to become professionals and quit their jobs or left their education. The band came to the attention of former Golden Earring member Jaap Eggermont, who advised them to play glamrock, a popular music movement with successful artists such as Suzi Quatro, Alvin Stardust, The Sweet and Mud. Barry Hay came up with the name Catapult. In September 1973 the time had come, Catapult was established. On November 23, 1973 the first performance followed, with Golden Earring, in a sports hall in Maassluis. Wim T. Schippers designed the band's logo.
