Melissa Lou Etheridge (May 29, 1961, Leavenworth, Kansas) is an American singer, guitarist, and activist. He plays in heartland rock, roots rock, folk rock, blues rock [country rock genres. His first LP was released in 1988. The album peaked at number 22 on the Billboard 200, and the song "Bring Me Some Water," which was taken from the album, was nominated for a Grammy Award. In 1993, he won a Grammy Award for the song "Ain't It Heavy", taken from his third album. He achieved mainstream success with his next album released this year. The tracks I'm the Only One and Come to My Window, which were ripped from the record, both reached the Top 30 in the US, the latter of which won Etheridge her second Grammy Award. The album peaked at number fifteen on the Billboard 200, where it remained for 138 weeks. The album was certified six times platinum.
