Ryu Hankil - Paper Music (2023)

When an external stimulus is applied to a piece of paper, it performs the computational function of an algorithm that preserves or renews its latent impulses. The resulting units of this algorithm form a musical composition in a continuous sequence, while simultaneously leaving behind archaeological traces that allow us to estimate the music's origin. In this manner, the paper, which is a non-crystalline representation of sound waves, transforms into music in a crystalline state.
