Legit reissue of a rare 1987 digidub zinger that is now eye-wateringly spenny on 2nd hand markets. All praise to Death is Not the End’s 333 series - a big one for White Mice fiends

‘Pop Style’ is the sole album by Hugh Maddo, recorded in JA, 1987, at Byron Lee’s Dynamics and Herman Chin-Loy’s Aquarius Studios for Bronx-based label Jamaazima, and fully licensed for this reissue from its co-producer, Nami Harmon. A heavy roll-call - Winston Wright, Bobby Ellis, Carlton "Santa" Davis, Dwight Pinkney, Willie Lindo and Mikey "Boo" Richards amongst many others - underline and drive Maddo’s mellifluous delivery with a compelling blend of supple performance and crisp digi dryness that hits where it matters. The whole thing is steeped in strongest flavours, commanding tightest grooves and melancholic vibe in ‘Pop Style’, next to the bluesy disco-soul budge of ‘Baby Don’t Go’, lissom but doleful shuffle in ‘Take Bribe’, heavyweight dancehall skank leavened by Maddo’s sweetness on ‘Everywhere You Go in This World’, and the deftest in ‘Travelling’ Man’.
